Child Centred Curriculum

At Rosie’s Early Learning, we embrace a child-centred approach that values, appreciates, and celebrates each child’s uniqueness. Our curriculum is thoughtfully designed to reflect children’s interests, strengths, and emerging skills, ensuring an engaging and meaningful learning experience across all rooms in our service.

We use the Rose Way Planning Framework that was developed at Rosie’s Early Learning by Carrie Rose and is now used in over 70 early learning services across Australia.

A Learning Journey Led by Children

We believe children learn best when they are genuinely interested in a topic. That’s why our educators observe, document, and build upon each child’s curiosity, using it as the foundation for our program. Instead of traditional “activities,” we offer learning experiences that encourage exploration, problem-solving, and skill development across all developmental areas.

To foster deep, meaningful learning, we provide:

  • A rich, stimulating environments that sparks curiosity and creativity.
  • Long-term investigative projects that evolve over weeks or even months.
  • Hands-on experiences that promote critical thinking and discovery.

A Collaborative Learning Experience

Children’s learning journeys are documented in our Weekly Learning Thread, a valuable tool for families to stay connected with their child’s development. This platform encourages meaningful conversations between educators and families, strengthening the partnership between home and centre.

The Power of Play

Play is at the heart of childhood learning—it allows children to explore, express, and make sense of their world. At Rosie’s, we create an inclusive environment where children can engage in open-ended, thought-provoking play without limitations. Our goal is to provide challenging yet enjoyable learning opportunities that inspire curiosity, confidence, and a lifelong love of learning.

At Rosie’s Early Learning, we see children as capable, competent learners, and our curriculum reflects this belief by empowering them to take an active role in their educational journey.

The Reggio Emelia Approach

Every child holds incredible potential, with the ability to develop lifelong skills and capabilities. We believe in fostering a love for learning by recognising children as capable learners and active participants in shaping their educational journey. Our approach ensures that learning is both engaging and meaningful by:

  • Creating an enriching environment that inspires exploration and discovery.
  • Maintaining consistent practices while embracing a child’s perspective.
  • Treating children as equals and offering experiences that deepen their understanding of the world.
  • Building on their interests and expanding learning across various developmental areas.
  • Integrating natural materials, such as wooden toys, to encourage creativity, imagination, and purposeful learning.
  • Partnering with families to cultivate a supportive learning community that nurtures each child’s growth.

Through this approach, we empower children to embrace their curiosity, develop resilience, and build a foundation for lifelong learning.

Loose Parts & Nature Pedagogy

At Rosie’s Early Learning, we embrace Simon Nicholson’s Loose Parts Theory, recognising the power of open-ended materials in fostering creativity, independence, and problem-solving. Loose parts and natural objects can be moved, adapted, and transformed, offering limitless possibilities for imaginative play and exploration.

Nature as the ultimate loose parts playground.

We see nature as the richest learning environment, where children engage with sticks, leaves, stones, logs, and shells to spark curiosity and sensory exploration. Outdoor loose parts play helps children assess risks, develop resilience, and connect with the world around them.

At Rosie’s, we celebrate the magic of open-ended play, empowering children to explore, create, and grow in an environment that nurtures their natural curiosity.

Rosie’s Environments

At Rosie’s Early Learning, our environments are deeply inspired by the Reggio Emilia approach, where the space itself is viewed as the third teacher. We create homely, warm, inviting, and thoughtfully designed spaces that encourage curiosity, collaboration, and self-expression. Natural materials, open-ended resources, and beautifully arranged learning areas inspire children to explore, create, and engage in meaningful experiences. Our environments reflect the voices, interests, and evolving projects of the children, fostering a sense of belonging and ownership. Through our carefully curated spaces—both indoors and outdoors—we support a play-based, inquiry-driven approach rather than just ‘activities’ to keep to children busy.
